Encephalartos barteri (zvaný též Západoafrický cykas) přitahuje pozornost jako jediná rozšířená nahosemenná rostlina v západní Africe (viz článek v Nigerian Field XXI, (i), 36-41 1956). Encephalartos barteri - West African Cycad in Ghana in Habitat
“Encephalartos barteri has attracted interest as the only widespread gymnosperm in West Africa. In Ghana it occurs sporadically on rocky hillsides in the southern part of the guinea savanna. It is particularly abundant on the western slopes of the Volta Gorge. This formerly remote area is now well-known as the setting of the great Volta Dam at Akosombo.” However, a large part of the original habitat of this species were destroyed by the dam.
